IEPSL is open and inclusive. Membership is open to all individuals interested in promoting the quality of their profession. Members are drawn from a wide variety of backgrounds who work in an increasingly broad range of fields, disciplines and locations, in the private sector, industry, universities, NGOs, the Government and the statutory agencies. This unique mix of members is bound together by a code of conduct which brings an ethical dimension to their work.
The purpose of the eligibility criteria for membership is to ensure that the membership reflects a high level of professional competence and integrity. At present, four grades of membership namely, Chartered Member, Member, Associate Member and Student Member. Applications will only be accepted for the membership category appropriate to an individual’s qualifications and competence.
1. Guidelines
1.1 Qualifications
The persons eligible to apply are graduates in biological and physical sciences, geography, agriculture, engineering, built environment and environment. Graduates in other disciplines may also apply if they have post graduate qualifications in an environment related field, and / or experience in the environmental field.
1.2 Other Matters
(a) Membership Committee of the IEPSL revives all applications and offer membership for each applicant. The Membership Committee is selected at the Annual General Meeting of the IEPSL.
Council of the IEPSL may revive the admission criteria from time to time according to the needs.
Applicants are requested to fill in the membership application form and send it to the address given in the application form.
Code of ethics
- Recognize and attempt to reconcile societal and individual needs with responsibility for natural and cultural systems.
- Ensure that the uses of natural resources are fair, equitable and sustainable and take account of the needs of a diverse environment.
- Promote and develop policies, plans, activities and projects that achieve complementary and mutual support between natural and man-made, and present and future components of the physical, natural and cultural environment.

- Establish and maintain for the public benefit appropriate standards of competence and conduct on the part of members of the Institute.
- Comply with environmental legislative enactments, regulations and standards;
- Undertake and accept responsibility for professional assignments only when qualified to do so;
- Provide professional opinion based on adequate knowledge derived from good science, thoughtful deliberation and honest conviction;
- Maintain competence through continuing professional development;
- Act with fairness, courtesy and good faith; give credit where due; and accept/give constructive, honest, and fair professional comment;
- Conduct oneself honourably, responsibly, ethically, and lawfully, with objectivity and integrity, so as to enhance the honour and reputation of the profession.
- Avoid conflicts of interest and situations that may imply a conflict of interest.
- Give proper credit for intellectual property and honor property rights.
- Abstain from deceptive acts such as fabricating, falsifying, suppressing, or deliberately misrepresenting research findings, or otherwise committing scientific fraud.
- Maintain a high standard of professional behaviour which will serve as an example to others.
- Never engage in corrupt practices.
Strive to accurately communicate scientific understanding and knowledge, and to avoid and discourage dissemination of erroneous, biased, or exaggerated statements.

Every candidate for admission to the grade of student should be engaged in under graduate studies of a recognized academic / professional institute associated with Environment such as would qualify him / her on satisfactory completion to qualify for transfer to a higher grade of membership.
