The Institute of Environmental Professionals Sri Lanka (IEPSL) is pleased to highlight the participation of three eminent IEPSL members: Emeritus Professor Mrs. Hemanthi Ranasinghe, Mr. Sarath Premalal Kehelella (Former Director General -Meteorological Department) and, Ms. Terancy Samarawickrama (Chartered Environmental Professional), in an ITV television discussion “ Sankathana Sabhawa” focusing on El Niño and its implications for Sri Lanka on the 6th of July, 2026.
Drawing on their expertise in environmental management, meteorology, forestry, and environmental science, the panelists discussed the potential impacts of El Niño on Sri Lanka’s weather patterns, water resources, agriculture, ecosystems, industries, and communities. The programme also highlighted the importance of preparedness, sustainable resource management, climate adaptation, and science-based decision-making in responding to climate variability.
The discussion provided an important platform for translating scientific and professional knowledge into information accessible to the wider public. IEPSL highly appreciates the contribution of its members to strengthening environmental awareness, climate literacy, and public dialogue on emerging environmental challenges in Sri Lanka. Their engagement in national media reflects IEPSL’s continuing commitment to promoting professional expertise for a more sustainable and climate-resilient future.
