Every year, over 100 million pens are discarded in Sri Lanka—ending up in landfills, polluting our environment, and contributing to the growing microplastic crisis.

On this World Environment Day, the Institute of Environmental Professionals Sri Lanka (IEPSL) proudly partnered with Star Garments, and Zero Plastic Movement, Wijeya Newspapers, and Thalawakelle Tea Estates PLC. to launch the PEN BIN Love Project — a sustainability initiative of Star Garments focused on the collection, refilling, and reuse of plastic pens.

On 5th June 2025, the project was officially launched at Star Garments Auditorium, Katunayake Export Processing Zone, Katunayake with the participation of officials of Star Garments, Zero Plastic Movement, IEPSL, Wijeya Newspapers, and Thalawakele Tea Estates PLC., marking the first step toward the ambitious goal of collecting and refilling 1 million used plastic pens across schools, universities, and Star Garments factories by placing 100 PEN collection bins,.
