The Institute of Environmental Professionals Sri Lanka (IEPSL), together with Lions District 306 D5, successfully conducted the Licensing Procedures Workshop on Environmental Protection Licensing (EPL) and Scheduled Waste Management Licensing (SWML) on Saturday, 10 January 2026, at the Ceylinco Auditorium, Ceylinco Life Insurance Ltd, Gampaha.
Regulatory insights on proposed NEA amendments
A key highlight of the programme was the session delivered by Mr. Kapila Mahesh Rajapaksha, Director General, Central Environmental Authority (CEA). His presentation provided a clear and informative overview of the proposed amendments to the National Environmental Act, offering important regulatory perspectives and guidance that were especially valuable for industry professionals.
Practical technical sessions from CEA resource persons
The workshop also featured highly informative, application-focused sessions led by distinguished technical resource persons from the Central Environmental Authority (CEA), covering licensing procedures and compliance requirements:
- Mr. Darshana Aththanayake, Senior Environmental Officer, Gampaha District Office
- Mr. M. L. Janith Shanika, Senior Environmental Officer, Hazardous Waste and Chemical Management Unit
Their contributions added strong practical value, helping participants better understand procedural expectations and compliance considerations related to EPL and SWML.
